 The inhabitants of Arnath
« Thread Started on Aug 21, 2006, 7:38pm »

Elves:Their appearance is that of a fair, smooth faced human with pointed ears, pale skin, thin brows and elegant facial features. The Elves are usually thin, but they have muscular bodies. The Elves love to sing and dance; they also have no hair anywhere on their bodies except for their head. Their powers are said to be immense, to the point that even the weakest, untrained elf could defeat a well-trained human in a battle of swordsmanship. They are very accomplished in the use of magic. The riders and mages befriended them in a far away land which they escaped to during the first war.

Humans:The largest contingent of Arnaths population the mages were humans but after the Dark Lord took control of Arnath the only humans left are under his rule.

Dwarves: Dwarves are shorter than humans and prefer to live in the mountains. they have not been seen in Arnath since the Dark Lord took over. Some Dwarves can weild magic.

Dragons: The skin of a Dragon is nearly impenetrable, though the thin membrane of their wings can be easily pierced. Their scales glitter like gems, although each Dragon only has one scale color. They also have the same eye color as their scales, and their teeth and neck spikes are usually white. The Dragons breathe flame the color of their scales. They do not start to breath fire untill they are 6 months old and the length of time which they can blow fire for increases as they grow, some can impressively hold the flame for over an hour. They never stop growing until their death. There are no known wild dragons left in Arnarth as the Dark Lord destroyed them but there are some in other lands and it was from their eggs that the new Dragons were born. They have immense Magical power though they cannot use it at will it can be used by the rider. The riders are based on those from the inheritance trilogy.

Nyphai:These are from the land of Alaesia they have powers over Trees and plants. This comes from their ability to sing to the trees spirits. They are small frail beings but their powers are strong. Their size allows them to conceal themselves well.

Mountain Men: These towering beings also from the land of Alaesia stand about 8' tall and are imensely strong although they have no magical powers they are good with weapons.

Halflings:Halflings are between two to four feet tall, the average height being three feet six inches. They tend towards stoutness and have slightly pointed ears. Their feet are furry, with leathery soles; most Halflings never wear shoes. Living rather longer than men, Halflings can sometimes live for up to 130 years (with 100 years average). The time at which a young Halfling "comes of age" is 33, as compared to the man 18-21 years. Thus a seventy-year-old Halfling would only be middle-aged. Halflings also like to drink ale, and enjoy tobacco, sometimes referred to as weed, something that can be attributed mostly to their love of gardening and herb-lore. They are sometimes seen riding Gryphons whom they appear to have a long lasting friendship with. These were among the original inhabitants of Arnath and many are now enslaved by the Dark Lord.

Gryphon:Gryphons are now a rare sight in Arnath. They are a race of half horse half eagle with the rear half being a horse and the front end being the tallons wings and head of an eagle. They were befriended millenia ago by the halflings who sometimes are seen riding them. They are as tall at the shoulder as a mans.

El'vin:A race of Elves from the land of Alaesia, the El'vin are imbued with wind magic and where the Elves live in the forests the El'vin live in the skies in their floating city Stormhaven amongst the clouds. They travel on windships controlled by the use of their magic.

Centaurs: Centaurs are a race of half horse half human with a humans torso, head and arms in place of the horses head. They are intelligent and because of the horses legs they are very fast. Very few centaurs use magic as it is deemed wrong to do so in their culture. They live in the forests of Arnath and have so far escaped the Dark Lords rule.

Orks and Uruk Hai: Created by the Dark Lord they are his main army the largest of which are the Uruk Hai. Uruk Hai are very large orcs that tower over humans they
are very strong so weild their weapons with power.

Skal'tum:A winged beast that stands as tall as a mountain man with poisonous claws. Has Dark protections on its skin which cannot be penetrated unless in sunlight or by a bladed wiped in a Skal’tum’s blood. Their skin is translucent white so you can see the black blood pumping round their bodies.
Can also be damaged by magic.

Ill Guards:Created by the Dark Lord they are minor magicians trapped by dark magic. They Hold Creatures loyal to the dark lord. E.g. Spiders, Scorpions, Rats which are released from their bodies at the dark lords command to do his bidding. The Ill Guard are notoriously hard to kill as they simply absorb magic to fuel themselves.

Drak'il:They are water dwelling goblins that come onto the land when need arises. The females are twice the size of the males and have poisoned tails the females stand at just over human height. All have poisoned claws. They often hunt in packs which makes them a formidable opponent.

Urgals:They are described as men with bowed legs and thick brutish arms made for crushing, and very large ramlike horns. They have yellow, piggish eyes, and have grayish skin. The Urgals are usually split into small clans which fight with each other over food, land, and power. The Kull, which are a particularly strong subspecies of Urgals, are easily a match for a non-magical being of Alagaësia. On average, they stand over eight feet tall.

Werecats:Werecats are interesting beings with the ability to shapeshift from cats to human-like creatures. They are described as larger, fierce-looking cats with lean bodies, powerful shoulders, and oversized paws. They also have shaggy manes, which surround their angular faces. The werecats' origins and natures are very hard to understand because of the cryptic way in which they communicate, never fully explaining themselves and often speaking in nothing but riddles. They tend to keep to themselves and only appear to help in random times of need. Is it said that during the time of the Riders, they were as renowned as Dragons. In the Riders' time, they were the favorite pet of Kings and Elves, although Werecats decided when they would stay and leave. Their race has begun to deplete over the years

Shades:Shades are humans possessed by spirits. They're similar to sorcerers in that they both use spirits in order to accomplish magical tasks, but the difference is that a sorcerer controls the spirits he uses, whereas a Shade either gives up his mind and body to a spirit or is overpowered by one and has no control over his actions. Shades are immensely powerful, The only way a Shade can be killed is to pierce their heart; otherwise they'll merely reappear elsewhere and return stronger than before.

Ra'zac:The Ra'zac are extremely powerful beings physically who have no grasp of magic.
The Ra'zac lifecycle goes as follows: when the Ra'zac are born, they are known to their parents as pupae, and they develop a roughly human exoskeleton that allows them approach their ultimate prey, humans. they have shining black skin, a humped back where future wings may be hidden, a sharp beak, a barbed purple tongue, and huge, lidless eyes, the size of a fist. Their eyes have no pupils or irises. At twenty years of age, the pupae, or Ra'zac, shed their exoskeletons and emerge as fully grown Lethrblaka.
The Lethrblaka have great wings, tight gray skin with huge corded muscles, a sharp killing beak, and have hind legs strong enough to crush a boulder. When they have morphed into fully grown Lethrblaka, they can reproduce by laying eggs. The pupae/Ra'zac have many terrifying abilities, including the ability to see on a cloudy night, track scents like dogs, jump higher and move quicker than any Human - and their last, most terrible weapon is their evil breath, which fogs the mind of Humans and incapacitates others, though to a slightly lesser extent.

Magicians etc: a magicians magic is limited by their knowledge of the aincient language( from the inheritance trilogy) and the amount of energy they have as magic uses energy. This is the same for riders however riders are more powerful, whereas a sorcerers is limited by his control of spirits. A mage can renew his power in sunlight by raising his hand in the air they can weild fire and can cast spells. Their power is shown by red hands, the colouring of which fades as their power is used. A dark mage twisted by the dark lord weilds balefire and dark magic.

The Riders:(how could i forget them thank you Irnstad & Eridor for pointing it out) essentialy based on the riders from the inheritance trilogy. They were the guardians of the times before the Dark Lord. They are connected in soal to their dragons and their magic is the color of their dragons scales the more time they spend with their dragons the more powerful they become. They are more powerful than all others at magic except it seems the Dark Lord himself. Their magic is limited by their knowledge of the aincient language.

Werewolves: The werewolves are basicaly the evil counterpart of the werecats. They have the ability to change at will from a wolf to a human. They unlike their cat brothers do not have prophetic sight. However they are stronger in battle than werecats. They cannot weild magic

Panserbjorn: These large bears live in the mountains of Arnath. They are normaly garbed in their soild sheet metal armour which is skillfully smithed to be near impenetrable. They are said to be the greatest smiths in the land. They cannot weild magic.

Si'lura: These beings live in the Hoeder woods but mix with neither the Elves or the Centaurs. They have the ability to shape shift to take the shape of any animal. However they cannot change their body mass while shifting so they cannot suddenly change to make themselves larger. They are a secretive race and few venture from the woods. They don't weild magic.

Dark Elves: These Elves were caught by the Dark Lord during the first war. He twisted them with his magic to serve him. They are equally as powerful as the true Elves. Their skin is black to match their magic. They are the opposites of other Elves in that their magic is black and they have none of the Elves feelings for life. However very few of these Dark Elves exist.

There are now four new inhabitants for members to use. They are the Panserbjorn, the Si'lura, the Dark elves and the Werewolves.
